Six New Gold Medal Mares

Breeding

At the Danish Warmblood EQUSANA Eliteshow at Vilhelmsborg 45 newly graded mares were awarded breeder medals  – and the new champion mares were proclaimed

29-08-2016 17:01:00, by Thomas Bach Jensen

Every foal or mare participating at the Danish Warmblood Eliteshow has been selected at a regional show. The young mares courting for the breeder medals have been hand-picked for the eliteshow at the saddle gradings during the summer throughout the country.

The judges from the Danish Warmblood breeding committee were extraordinarily happy with the quality of the newly graded mares – 16 show jumper mares and 29 dressage mares. 20 mares were awarded a bronze medal, 19 mares got silver and the remaining six mares were invited to the ”gold finals” where the best dressage mare of the year and the best show jumping mare of the year were to be named.

The gold finals with six extraordinary mares consisted of two show jumping mares and four dressage mares. Both of the show jumping mares were bred and owned by Stutteri Ask which a is an influential stallion station, show jumping stable and breeding facility producing several embryo transfers out of competition mares every year. Proclaiming the best show jumping mare of the year the judges had the choice between the noble and feminine Beezie Ask by Cavall Ask x Clarimo and the more sturdy mare Charetta Ask by Favorit Ask x Caretino whose dam Charett Ask has competed in international Grand Prix. Charetta Ask had demonstrated immense capabilities over the fences and was awarded 9.5 for technique and 10 for capacity. She was decorated with the title “Show jumping mare of the year”.

One of the four dressage mares in the gold finals stood out as a champion right from her very first appearance; the audience loved her and the judges praised her as a young mare in a league of her own. Her name is Straight Horse Sezuanna, and as the name indicates she is a full sister of the triple world champion Sezuan. Sezuanna was not only crowned as “Dressage mare of the year” but also for achieving the highest score at the saddle grading this year where she scored 948.5 including 10 for trot and 10 capacity. Under the saddle Sezuanna paints a picture of very high international quality.

Straight Horse Sezuanna and her full sister Straight Horse Ascenzione – who was awarded silver medal – are both embryo transfers. They are from two different flushings one month apart but born on the same night at their breeders’ yard. The breeders are Eva Götzsche and Mogens Pedersen who run Straight Horse ApS, and co-owner of both full sisters is Andreas Helgstrand.

Gold medal mares – dressage:
3-year-old Straight Horse Sezuanna by Blue Hors Zack x Blue Hors Don Schufro bred by Straight Horse ApS and owned by the breeder and Helgstrand Dressage.
3-year-old UNO Day Sun by UNO Don Diego x Blue Hors Rosoff bred and owned by Stutteri UNO.
